When a customer submits payment, the gateway encrypts and routes the transaction to the acquirer, which sends it through the card network to the issuing bank for authorization. Approved transactions are settled in a subsequent batch. Card transactions are typically funded the day after settlement, with ACH offering same-day and next-day funding windows depending on configuration.
